Special Programs
Activities In and Out of the Classroom
In addition to our regular school days, The Open Doorway School offers several programs to either maintain
academic levels or to help children move ahead academically when school is not in session.
Summer Programs
We offer two summertime opportunities for our students.
These programs help children stay busy during the summer months or provide the curriculum necessary for grade advancement.
- Our summer camp has a different theme-based activities with related field trips each season. Summer camp runs
between 6 and 8 weeks each year. Summer camp provides our students with continued structured program of academic skills with fun trips. - Our summer school is for students to make up classes or class work they need to complete for graduation with a regular diploma.
Homework Club
To help students with their homework, or for those needing special attention, Homework Club with tutoring is available Monday through Thursday after school.
Youth Outreach Club
To involve students in the community, while helping them to achieve their state required service hours, our Youth Outreach Club
meets every Thursday after school to plan and practice for several yearly events which include:
- Annual Musical Play – an all original musical performed at local retirement centers
- Humane Society Donations – collecting and presenting Holiday gifts for animals in local shelters.
Journalism Club
Students with an interest in journalism, creative writing and photography get together every Thursday to publish the school
newsletter and to work on the annual Memory Book.
